When I try to open any excel document I get the message denoted in the attachment. However if I click disable then my personal workbook does not show up when I start excel and I need to run some macros stored in my personal.xlsb. Any help in rectifying the problem will be appreciated.

Following up on my post. When I click "no" to disable another message pops up which is shown in attachment labeled Excel Error 2

If any consolation I get the second read only message...I just click as to remove means deleting and reloading workbook. Hopefully an update will get rid of it.
Thank you for your suggestion. However, I tried that and it does not work.
I had a look at this and found the problem went away when I renamed the xlsb file in the XlStart folder of excel. How long it lasts remains to be seen

You should only get that message if you are running more than one instance of Excel manually. If you open the files from within Excel, you shouldn't have that problem.

I only use one instance. This message started appearing after a windows upgrade to windows 10 a few months back.
Check the process list in Task Manager. I suspect you have two Excel.exe processes running. Otherwise there would be no reason for that message.
With a single instance of excel running there was also an excel background process as well as the workbook opened. Next time the message appears I'll check what the situation is then. Ta
