Allow Formatting of cells but not "security" formatting

    Hi there,

I want to allow users to have limited format cell abilities: fill, border, font. I don't want them to be able to change the security settings (hidden, locked).

Is there a way to prevent security formatting? FYI: I have the ability to control formatting on an individual cell basis through a custom shortcut menu.

    Thank-you!

Even with cell formatting allowed, if the worksheet is protected, a user can't change the hidden or or locked properties of a cell.

I tried this, and selecting the "hidden" or "locked" security properties is allowed, even if the worksheet is protected.

What do you have ticked (checked) in the protect dialog?

It works properly here - with the sheet protected, cell formatting is greyed out on the right-click menu. How are you accessing it?

As SHG says, even with cell formatting allowed, the security tab should not be visible when the sheet is protected.

I am accessing through a custom shortcut menu that triggers:
    Application.CommandBars.ExecuteMso "FormatCellsDialog"

So through VBA? In that case, I presume you need to add the security levels you want via the code.
