Use Status Bar Sums

Hi,

I wondered how does the status bar of Excel work with the ability to sum/count as we highlight cells. Ie, as I highlight more values, the sum/count automatically changes.
Is there a way to replicate this with VBA or a way to grab the 'live running' total as shown in the status bar?
