Checkbox Macros

I inserted a check box on a sheet and would like to use it's status in some VBA code. I assigned it to a macro with the following code.

updTALAclasslist is a Public boolean variable that I would like to use in another 'Sub'

However I get the following error message.
Object doesn't support this property or method (Error 438). On the following line.

Any help in getting this to work would be appreciated

Then please let us know what line returns the error, and is the checkbox a form or activeX control? Ideally provide us with a workbook displaying the issue.
