I have a list of items/names or a text in Col A.
I want to search for the items that contains certain characters I write in Col B1(search box)
and create a new list at Col C.
Three letters/characters will do.![]()

Hi,
See attached
It uses an Advanced Data Filter with the criteria range in I1:K2
I've added a couple of macros to run the filter and clear the list.
Would you also change your profile and add both your version of Excel and your location. We like to know the version since you've uploaded an old .xls file whereas you may have a later version with additional features and if so we usually return the latest version we have. We like to know your location since it's important if we need to consider time zones/regional settings/date formats ..etc.

Hi Richard, I think there s a problem it did not work here?
İs it because my excel being 2007 or else?
I mean, when I enter ""jne" in b2(search box) which is supposed to return "jane"
but nothing there.. your list data and clear list works fine.

You should enter the letters required in the E2:G2 range
It would be possible to use a formula to generate E2:G2 from B2 but I felt it was just simpler to enter them separately.
Thanks Richard, it works..
Could we modify it so I can use only one cell(b2) to enter the letters?
without clicking "listData" or" CleatData" buttons?
OK,
Maybe you misunderstand. The buttons are nothing to do with the E2:G2 cells. The buttons are only there to automate the system. If you don't want the buttons then just delete them. When you do you will of course have to manually filter the data with the Advanced Data functionality. Your choice of course.
To have E2:G2 automatically populated from B2, then in E2 enter
Formula:![]()

and copy across to G2.
Thanks now it is better.
it would be easier if I pressi down arrow to make the results display
instead of clicking the "listData" button![]()
