Colouring cells depending on letter value

i've been using a macro to colour individual cells depending on the letter entered into the cell, but when i decreased the number of rows in the spreadsheet i get:

runtime error '13':
type mismatch

the macro works fine until i start deleting columns, a brief example is shown below, any help would be appreciated.
