The attached project (downloaded from the Net) dims the Excel window/work area.
I'm not familiar with API calls.
How would this code be modified to dim the computer desktop instead ? And, once accomplished ... would dimming the desktop prevent temporarily moving a file from a directory on the C Drive
to the desktop, then moving it back again to the originating directory ?

There is a problem with your file. It crashes Excel when it opens. Please remove the file and post your code instead. Improper API code can be very dangerous to run.

That's strange. The project runs fine on my computer. No problem at all.
I wonder if anyone else is having the same difficulty ?
It does indeed crash my computer as well. It is perhaps an issue with opening initially in protected view.

Please remember to mark your thread 'Solved' when appropriate.
Crashes on 2010, runs OK on 2013 & 2016 plus 2007 running under XP.
When it crashes, it displays a '400' error much like this. This is a general 'Illegal Operation' error which can apply to just about anything (like the VBA 1004 error), but does not occur in the VBA code so is untrapppable.

Ok ... thank you for the heads up. I've removed the project attachment. Please understand it was not my code/project. It functions well on my system and thought it would be ok for anyone else, especially since the author (John Walkenbach) is well versed in VBA/Excel.
I apologize for any confusion.
Having said that, does anyone know how to dim the desktop ?
