macro to get cell values from sheet without opening it

I need a macro that is linked to a command button that a user clicks, selects a file and then gets cell values into the worksheet from specific cells in the file selected. Can anyone provide example code for this? For example I would like to get the value from cell A1 in the selected sheet and place the value in cell b2 of the sheet I am working in.

You can get cell values from a closed workbook using formulas, it is more difficult using VBA

The problem is I am trying to get data from various files with different filenames. I cant see how I can do this with formulas. I need a macro to activate the file and then place values in the workbook I have open.
