    Pasting Into Filtered Data

Hi, I've never used Macros before, don't know what they are, but yet have a major problem: I absolutely NEED to be able to paste stuff into filtered data, i.e., the visible cells only. I have a Mac and save my document as an Excel 97-2004 workbook .xls. I have tried using the Mac shortcut command + shift + Z and pasting the data, but to no avail. Does an Excel expert with unlimited patience and a kind heart feel like helping me? You'd have the undying gratitude of a random stranger on the other end of a computer … if that's any motivation. Thank you.

Suggest that you try the following.

Add a new column adjacent to the data set containing sequential numbers (use fill or drag down to do this). This will hold the order of the rows.
    Filter
Add a flag (such as a single letter) into another new column adjacent to the data set
    Unfilter
    Sort by the flag
    Paste within the flagged data
    Re-sort by the sequential number.

    Re: Pasting Into Filtered Data

Alright am a little confused. Please bear with me while I try to understand. Some of the things you suggested are themselves new to me. When you say "Add a new column adjacent to the data set," am I correct in assuming you want me to add the column before filtering? And when you say add the column next to the "data set," does that mean directly next to the column I'll hopefully ultimately be pasting my intended data? Anywhere on the same sheet? Or on a whole new sheet? And by "sequential numbers," you mean ANY sequential numbers? I don't really have any specific ones in mind. The data I eventually intend to paste is not sequential. Can you answer these questions first and then I'll tackle the next steps? Thank you so much.

    Re: Pasting Into Filtered Data

    I've annotated your questions below.

Alright am a little confused. Please bear with me while I try to understand. Some of the things you suggested are themselves new to me. When you say "Add a new column adjacent to the data set," am I correct in assuming you want me to add the column before filtering? YES And when you say add the column next to the "data set," does that mean directly next to the column I'll hopefully ultimately be pasting my intended data? YES Anywhere on the same sheet? SUGGEST IN THE NEXT AVAILBLE COLUMN Or on a whole new sheet? And by "sequential numbers," you mean ANY sequential numbers? YES - THE REASON FOR DOING THIS IS TO BE ABLE TO SORT THE DATA BACK INTO IT'S ORIGINAL ORDER 1,2,3 ETC IS PERFECTLY ADEQUEATE. I don't really have any specific ones in mind. The data I eventually intend to paste is not sequential. Can you answer these questions first and then I'll tackle the next steps? Thank you so much. YOU ARE WELCOME
