Can't get CF to fill a column

Hi all,

in the attached file, you can see that I have some CF in the range B5 to Z30 - the one I'm having trouble with is the "Y" - I want the rest of the column above and below the "Y" to CF with a black fill and white text any time a "Y" is inserted into any column.

I've tried several ways with CF but am not having any luck - is CF the right way to achieve it, or should I consider a VB solution?
