    VBA Error 400

Does anyone know what a Popup headed Microsoft Visual Basic with as Text simply a white cross in a red circle and as text "400" means.
It appears when I click an icon on a custom ribbon which should run a macro. The macro runs flawlessly when run from the list in the Macros box on the Developer tab. It used to work fine.

    Hi,

Could you upload a picture as well as the workbook in question.

    Re: VBA Error 400

I have made a snipping of the error message.[ATTACH]432943 and a typical worksheet where the problem occurs. I am not familiar with attaching images so am not sure if they will be done correctly.
The workbook is essentially a record of all my spending in 2014 so I am not about to upload the workbook to a public forum. I have deleted most of the data on the worksheet but it is all in the same general form. The image also shows my custom ribbon tab.
    Hope this helps you.

    Hi,

Without seeing your actual workbook with the customised ribbon it's difficult to say. Stating the obvious I know but is the macro attached to the icon?

Anonymise your data and upload the workbook..

Purely for information, in the Rep you added to what did the 'pretty useless' comment refer?

RE "Is the macro attached to the icon?". Yes it is. I checked again after getting the problem in Options- Customizing the ribbon.

I thought your first reply to the original message which did not indicate whether or not you had ever seen this error message before was pretty useless and I felt requesting a copy of the workbook was also pretty unreasonable. I also thought my description of the error message was very, very clear. I would assume my attempt to send you the snippings was not successful for which I apologise. My fault. I really don't use forums very much and don't know how to do things which other users know.

Not sure why you would assume I hadn't seen the error message when the picture, albeit small was in view. And why you think asking for the workbook is unreasonable completely defeats me. There are often many reasons for error messages and without being able to see what you get in the context of the workbook it's mostly impossible to say. If you had been around here a bit longer you'd realise that we are always asking for workbooks to be uploaded and if you had read the rules area you'd see that there is a note that says pictures are generally not of much use and suggests that you upload the workbook.

All of which is why I found your comment unreasonable.

I do have PNG files mentioned in my first reply, including one which shows the customised ribbon. If you can tell me how to send them, I will gladly do so.

Click the Go Advanced button below and then scroll down and you will see Manage Attachments then follow instructions.
You'll see a button Add Files and then it's just a question of reading and doing the logic things.

    Isn't all that difficult

Did it. Followed your clear instructions. Sent it but it doesn't seem to have worked or at least I can't open them in the message.

    Re: VBA Error 400

The instructions for attaching a file are also in the forum's FAQ.

    Here's the specific text...

The administrator may allow you to use the attachment feature of this forum, which gives you the ability to attach files of certain types to your posts. This could be an image, a text document, a zip file etc. There will be a limit to the file size of any attachments you make, as the forums should not be used as an extension of your hard disk!

To attach a file to a new post, simply click the [Browse] button at the bottom of the post composition page, and locate the file that you want to attach from your local hard drive.

Only certain types of files may be attached: these are the valid file extensions for files to be attached to this forum: .

After posting, the attachment will show up in the body of your message. To view the contents of the attachment (if it is not already displayed) simply click the filename link that appears next to the attachment icon .

    Re: VBA Error 400

    Hi,

The workbook has still not been uploaded.
You'll perhaps appreciate we need to see your problem in the context of the workbook, particularly since as you say you have a customised ribbon.

We need to be able to encounter the problem for ourselves, not just see a picture of some error message if we are going to have a chance of debugging it.

    Re: VBA Error 400

At a guess the issue is in your custom ribbon code which we can't yet see.
400 x is a pretty generic error (which I suppose is why Microsoft didn't bother to describe it?).
