Read values from one column and append the same in another column

Hello all,

I need to read values from one column and append the same into the other column with few additional strings.
please find the attached excel file, in which the details are given the expected result and i have tried out the below code.

In column D, type =IF(LEN(B2)>4,B2,LEFT(A2,6)&B2) and copy down.

Thanks for your reply alansidman. It works fine, but how to replace the same in column B, while implementing the formula in the macro.
