Alternative lists to data validation

I have a worksheet that I wanted to use drop-down list data validation for. It is an Excel 2003 xls file. The problem is that whenever I was saving I was told some of the formatting cannot be saved and most of the drop downs disappeared. There had to be approx 54,000 cells validated this way, so it is no surprise that it didn't work.

So I am now looking for an alternative to data validation - I want a list to appear for the user to select from a pre-defined list of options. Is this possible, without using validation?

Hi! You can create a Userform with your list and use it as your "data validation". You need some basic VBA code. See the example attached. Hope it helps!
