hi,
would someone mind explaining why I am receiving this error, and how i can prevent it? seems to manifest itself after about the 2nd or 3rd press of the command button.

Could the problem be that you are adding multiple, identical, SortFields to the AutoFilter?
Perhaps there's a limit, eg 64, to the no of SortFields you can have.
