Hi i need code to be able to search the date in Cell A1 and look through the data in Cells E:E, then find the closest match then return the corresponding value in cell D:D.

Hi all your column E dates are just text strings. They can be understood as dates but since they're not numeric Excel can't perform any date arithmetic.
You need to convert them first. Here's one way. Enter in F1 on sheet 2

copy this down.
Then to find the nearest value that precedes the date in A1 use
