    Out of my league!

My boss is asking me to figure this out and I'm trying but I feel it's just out of my league!

I need to automatically cross-reference the "Equipment Serial Numbers" and have the corresponding "Customer Name" from Sheet 1 show up under "Location" on Sheet 2. If there is no corresponding "Customer Name" on Sheet 1 I need it to show "In Stock".

The "Equipment Serial Numbers" on Sheet 1 are constantly changing as we install/remove equipment and I need to keep track of our inventory all in one place, automatically.

Please help me impress my boss!

I tried this formula =VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet1!$A$2:$B$4,1,FALSE) but it's resulting in #N/A

    Re: Out of my league!

This isn't too difficult, but if you want help, you'll need to change the title of your post to comply with the first rule of this forum:

    1. Use concise, accurate thread titles. Your post title should describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

After you change the title, make another post in this thread indicating you changed the title and I'll be happy to help.

I understand how frustrated you must be. Please note that when you post to forums there are rules. I have been your position.
Try the below in the location column to get what you want. Next make read the forum rules before posting.

    =INDEX(Sheet1!A:A,MATCH(A2,Sheet1!B:B,0))

The match finds the value in the column B:B of sheet1.
The index returns the value of that matches find from the column A:A.

I can't edit the title. I'll just post a new one.
Can someone delete this for me?

Also to vlookup something the initial column must have the value you are looking for.

So if the Columns on Sheet1 were:

    Equipment Serial Number, Customer Name

    it would have worked.

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

(This thread should receive no further responses until this moderation request is fulfilled, as per Forum Rule 7)
