Creating a colour pallette that by pressing the correct button/colour it colours the cell

I have a spreadsheet that has lots of blank cells that have to be filled in various colours. I have successfully created macros for colouring them and have assigned them to a form button, which works great. However, some of the cells need text in also so I have tried to include the typing of text into the same macro, so for example I have a red cell with the letter D in the middle, I record the macro but they never work ... no colour no text nothing ? Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong? Thanks
