Blocking Ads in a Microsoft Webbrowser Control (ActiveX)

    Hello all,

I am relatively new to the forum and a novice (self-proclaimed) Excel user.

I have recently started work on developing a dashboard interface for a company I occasionally do business with. They have requested an interactive Map of all of their locations and I have found a clever way of doing this, however, the end result is a webbrowser control displaying a site that shows ads at the bottom of page. Is there a way I can prevent the control from displaying ads?

I've tried installing an ad blocker in IE hoping that would some how transfer over its functionality into excel; unfortunately that did not work. I've also been scouring the internet for some useful information on this subject and haven't been able to find anything specifically relating to Excel use of a webbrowser control in regards to blocking ads.

I am currently working in Excel 2010, on a Windows 7 32bit OS and using IE 11 (however I'll eventually have to downgrade to IE 7 for the offices needs).

Thank you in advance for any help!

    -Jake

    In a word, no

You also need to test in IE7 most sites on the internet have dropped support for IE7 so if this is something that is required, then you'll need to search carefully for a solution that will work (they'll be the exception rather than the norm).

You can't downgrade to IE7 on your machine, you'll need to download a VM from https://www.modern.ie/en-us/virtualization-tools to test.

Thank you for the quick response, Kyle123!

I'll make sure to downgrade before going further with anything required IE to function. I had a hunch that blocking ads might not be possible but I wanted to make sure before investing in another solution.
