Could someone point me in the right direction as to why my VBA macro buttons suddenly stopped working? When I click on the button the button seems to be totally disabled. I have not changed the code or any settings.

We haven't got enough information to comment. A good starting point would be to upload the workbook.
First check that you have enabled macros when you open the workbook and that calculation is set to automatic. The calculation mode is set by the first workbook you open in an Excel session and if that was set to manual then the Application takes its default setting from this.

Note there has been an update on link above as well.
I found the following to work on one machine have not tried further.
This solution seems to work. It is from microsofts site.
Search for and delete all .exd files
