problem with pasting data from notepad file
Hello all,
I have been trying to open a notepad file, copy and paste the contents to excel with the following code:
the code does copy the contents to column A but the data covers from A to I.

Can someone tell me how to edit the code so it takes the contents and pastes over A to I? I am not a coder and not really sure how to do this.

How is the text delimited, or is it fixed width columns?

Before I tried this code I have been manually pasting it in excel by highlighting all of column A and pasting. I then used text to columns in the data tab with delimeter > tab and comma. This works but I have to do this 36 times for every report and there's 20 reports so that's why I wanted to automate the whole process with the press of a button.
When I do this with the code, it doesn't.
Forgot to mention I only have to take out a column of numbers from this file. I can't just highlight the 1st number and use shift and end to go to the last number. I have to delete a row after a certain number of rows about 3 times.

It sounds like it's a csv file - can't you just open it directly with excel? Or are you trying to add it to an existing sheet?
its a .dat file that I opened with notepad but it has worked in excel so nice one mate I'll have a bit play and get back with the results.
