Hi I have a problem with an excel spreadsheet that was created and last edited using and older version of Excel. It has many macros in it, some that are run on execution. So I think this may be the issue.
I open the excel file. It opens in protected mode, but when I select to open properly, it asks if I want to load it as read only or not. Whichever I select it crashes excel.
Any ideas?
I cannot even open it to show you the macros that would auto run,.

Hi,
It seems like the Workbook_Open event code or an Auto_Open macro that cause the problem, so you need to disable this when you opening the file.

In short, you hold the Shift key when opening the file.
If this success, then you get a chance to manually fix the macro that cause the problem, of course you must remove the workbook/worksheet/vba protection first (assumming that you know the password for them).
