Checkboxes will not change corresponding cell value while corresponding cell is locked!

So I have several checkboxes on a sheet that I need in order to change the value of an assigned cell. To prevent users from changing values in the cells themselves, I would like for the cell to be locked when the sheet is protected.

At this point, when I lock and protect the sheet and click the checkbox, the following error appears.

If there is a code that will change the value of a cell on different sheet, that would be great. In fact, I imagine that would be much easier.

At first I was using the Active X controls under the developer tab. I switched them to the User Form controls and I was able to choose a different sheet to link them to. That was much easier and it worked great. I no longer get the error.
