Excel 2010 Crashes Whenever Worksheet Tab is Renamed

I have an Excel 2010 workbook with about 10 worksheets and vba. When I create a new worksheet in the workbook and then go to the tab that reads "Sheet11" and change to anything else, Excel crashes. It first shows "calculating" in the lower right followed by a percentage and right before it gets to 100% it crashes. When the file auto recovers the tab has the new name I've given it, which is good, but I'd prefer not to have the workbook crashing so often. The workbook has vba created by someone else, which I suspect is the problem but he insists it cannot be his work because the problem is occurring with a brand new worksheet that has no vba. I've tried turning off all COM add-ins and that doesn't help.

One place you can check is in VBA, go to Alt+F11.
When Visual Basic opens, take a look at 'Microsoft Excel Objects' (upper left corner) see if you have very long sheet name.
If you do, you can change it on properties window.
