Since you are using Excel 2010...You have SLICERS!
• Select a cell in one of your pivot table
• From the PivotTableTools tab on the ribbon
...Analyze.Insert Slicer...Select the field(s) you want to filter on...Click: OK
...Right-click on the Slicer...Report Connections...Check the pivot tables you want to control from your slicer.
Changes to Slicer filters will impact all connected pivot tables.
Is that something you can work with?
Thanks for the reply. It would work if i can automatically filter the slicer, otherwise it brings me back to where i started from, unless I am missing something?
Basically the first pivot table will get updated based on a VBA code and I want to use its pivot items to automatically update the second pivot table.
