    Start/Stop timer

I researched first and there are quite a few similar questions and answers to this question, but nothing was exactly what I was looking for so I'm starting a new thread.

I'm attempting to time tasks that I (and others) complete in excel. What I'd like is a start and stop button that will populate certain cells. For example, when I click start, a time (the start time) would be entered in cell D2 (hour/minute/second) and when I click stop E2 will be populated with the new time (same format). I can have another cell, lets say F2, calcuate the difference to tell me how long the task took.

The second (and tricky) part is that the next time I click start I want it to populate the next row down (D3, etc.). Is this even possible? I'm open to other ideas. I'm thinking I would eventually have a submit button that would send all of the results to a centrally located workbook (or perhaps the macro would do this on a continual timer, say, on open and on close).

Thanks for any and all help.

    J

I was searching for this kind of function to a couple of weeks back and found this, maybe it will help you a bit in your project.

Thanks, I'll take a look at this. I'm not even sure this is the best way to do it. Someone suggested a user form with command buttons (that populates the spreadsheet). There's probably tons of ways to go about this.

Yes, I think the complexity depends on your particular needs, but with that link you can try to create two buttons with macros to start and stop the timer. For my part that one works beautifully

    Good luck!
