    Calculation mode and opening files

Hi all, I have a strange scenario which I can't work out.

I have a file called "current" - which has its formula calculation set to automatic (within file - options).
I have a file called "portal" - which has its formula calculation set to manual (within file - option)

The macro1 in current simply opens the file portal. When it does this and I check the file - options - formulas, it is set to manual (for both files) which is what I want.

I also have a file called "current2" - which has its formula calculation set to automatic (within file - options).
I also have a file called "portal2" - which has its formula calculation set to manual (within file - option)

The macro1 in current simply opens the file portal. When it does this and I check the file - options - formulas, it is set to automatic(for both files) which is what I do not want.

The problem is, I can;t see any difference between the files (normal and 2). In fact the files current2 and portal2 were generated from the original's. I don't understand why one file set to automatic opens a manual file and the calculation mode is set to manual, and with the other file it is set to automatic.

I hope this is something simple that someone can advise on? The macro codes are also identical as below

Re: Calculation mode and opening files

The first macro is actually the one that's odd - calculation mode is set by the first workbook opened. Is there any code in portal.xlsm that runs when it's opened?

Hi romperstomper - nope, each file is the same (as far as I can tell). No additional code upon opening etc. I know that you can set the calculation method within a macro, but these macro's simply open the file. One opens as manual and one as automatic. I would upload them but they are over 50,000KB in size

I take that back - you are absolutely correct, there was some hidden code within the private sub on the first one, which set the mode to xlmanual.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
