Restrict cell entry

Hi,

For a first post I'm hoping this isn't a stupid question... excel 2003

I'm trying to restrict certain cells or ranges on a sheet, so that only values & comments can be entered. I.e. no formatting can be applied.

I can protect the sheet, but that won't let me enter comments into protected cells.

Is there a way of doing it please?
