Question combine cells and format to date

I have two columns of numerical data, one month and the other year. How do I combine into a single cell formatted as a date (1/2014, 2/2014,etc..).

    Letz say

A is month and B column is year

    in C1

    type

    =A1&"/"&B1

and double click when dark + cursor appears in edge of C1 cell's bottom

then go to format and in custom

Be aware that this solution looks like a date but is text.If you further analysis based on those " dates" it won't work

Re: combine cells and format to date

Original date data comes as 19590515. I need it formatted as a date (05/15/1959) or similar so that I can plot data by date. Any suggestions are appreciated.
