Create form with different sized cells in same column

Newbie question but I am trying to update some forms in our office. We have a Bid proposal form that we send out to contractors that I need to update. Last update was in 1998 and the guy who did it was not very computer literate, so he literally cut and taped the form together, made a master copy, and we make copies from that form. We have to write in all the info, sometimes there is not enough room, etc. I want to do it all on the computer if possible to save time, and to be more efficient.

Is there a way to lock cell widths so I can have different sized cells in the same column? I am not sure what would be the easiest way to create this form in Excel, so I am attaching a picture of it so you can see what I am attempting to create.

I do not know a lot about Excel and how to use the different functions within the program, so any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Since you're not able to create a valid PDF file (the forum does accept PDF attachments), try taking a screenshot of what you would like to accomplish and upload it (JPG or BMP), otherwise post it to a free file-sharing site like mediafire and share the link to the file.

You can zip and attach any type of file -- if that part of the forum isn't broken.

You can certainly create a form that looks like that in Excel (or Word). You would use multiple columns, of course and use borders to create the lines/separators.

As for making cells varying in height within a column - yes you can do that, but it will affect the height of all cells in that row. So if you make E10 25 points high, A10, B10, C10, etc. will all become 25 points high.

The only way to prevent that is to use cell merging or centering across a selection of cells with custom borders to make it look like one cell is larger than others.
