automatic sequential numbering for forms

I'm trying to develop a form.
I'd like it to automatically date and number itself when opened.
Is this something a newby could do?

It would help to have more information.

Where are the forms and entries stored – e.g. as single records in a table or database, as separate sheets in a workbook, or separate files in a directory? If Excel is to number new forms it needs to be able to count the number of previous entries somehow.

Is your form overwritten each time a new entry is saved, or does it save the information somewhere else? This will determine the easiest way if inserting the date – there are several, all simple.

If you attach a copy of your form (with any sensitive or confidential information e.g. names altered or removed) it would also help.
