Using Windows Explorer, right click on the file name. Select Properties. Select the Details Tab. Scroll down to Content Created under the Origin section. I am not sure if this information can be retrieved within the spreadsheet itself. If you are willing to create a UDF, then look here

In Excel 2003 (while the workbook is open) it's in "File > Properties", on the Statistics tab.

I want an excel function where i can get the date of creation of a file automatically and use the same in my subsequent formula for calculating.

Did you read the article I posted for you. It tells you how to create a function to do this. There is no current Excel function to allow you to do this. You will need to create one if that is the direction you want to go. It is simple to do if you follow the example.
