Question ignoring text in cell references

I am trying to add cells within a column. The cells contain both text and numbers. Sum does not work, I get 0 as a result, adding A1 A2A3 etc., is also not working. What am I doing wrong? I have set the cells to number and then to general, neither helps.

Can you give a sample of what you are trying to add together?
Where there is a will there are many ways.

If there are no alphabetic characters, spaces, etc.., try =sumproduct(--(your_range))
