    Filling conditional formatting.

    Hi all,

Is it possible to apply conditional formatting to a range (not defined as an actual Range, although it could be if needed) of cells without affecting the formula already in the cells and also so that the conditional formatting formula remains fixed.

I've tried using the basic 'fill down' option but that erases the formulas in the cells and also the formula in the actual conditional formatting changes in line with the number of cells that are filled down. i.e.: the conditional format is a colour change and the trigger reference cell follows the fill down and I don't want it to... does that makes sense?

I can do what I need by conditionally formatting each individual cell, but that seems long-winded.

    Thanks,
    J.

Have you tried copying the cell, then select the remainder of the range and go to Edit|Paste Special >> Formats.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

You can use the format painter to transfer all formats frome one cell to another cell. Click the source cell, click the format painter, select the target cells.

Or, copy the source cell, select the target cells and go Paste Special - Formats

You just need to make sure that your condition in the conditional format is set up to reference the correct cell. For example, if the condition is

    =$A$1>99

then all cells that you copy the format to will look at A1 to check the condition. But if you conditionally format A1 with the formula

    =A1>99

and copy that conditional format, the target cells will look at themselves to check the condition.
