Exporting to MS Access with no value in column

I am trying to export a worksheet with several columns into MS Access. Some of these columns contain fields with no values, most of the fields contain numbers. This seems to throw MS Access off. Any idea how I can format these "no value" fields as numbers so that Access "accepts" them?

I don't know if you've already tried this, but it often helps to put a dummy row at the beginning of your excel table (under the header row) with data of the type in each column eg XXX for text columns, 0 for numerical columns etc. This can then be deleted after importing into access.
