    Converting text file into Excel

    I have, what I think, is a relatively simple problem. I have a .txt file full of information - an ID number, last name, first name, middle name and email address. It looks like this:

    123456789 Smith John Michael jmsmith@yahoo.com

    Now when I open this .txt file in Excel, all of the information for each record goes into the first cell only. I was wondering if there was an easy way to have the data transfer into separate cells, as an alternative to retyping much of the information. Apologies if this has been posted before. Thanks.

    Look at the Tools->Text to columns command. I expect you want to use a fixed width option, but you can review the options presented and pick what parses the data closest to what you want.
