    conditional formatting

    I have cells with combinations of the letters N and Y eg. NNYN, YYNY, YNYN, etc. Can anyone suggest how I can conditionally format the cells to show all Y's in each cell in red and the same for all N's in green, eg YYNN.

    its not possible with Conditional formatting.
    however you can use four columns to enter above combinations and apply Conditional formatting on those columns.
