    Colour coded Validation Lists?

    Hey Guys,

I've used valiadtion lists to create cell dropdown lists. Is it possible to colour code the drop down? Ie a drop down saying "failed" could change the cell background/text to red and succesfull could be green?

If this can't be done via validation could you give me an idea how I could do this?

    Any help/suggestions are appreciated. :-)

    Daniel.

Sure, this can be done using conditional formatting. Select Format > Conditional Formatting from the menu.

    Daniel.
select the range where you have validation lists.
go to Format > Conditional Format and set fields as
Cell value is: Equal to: ="Fail" and choose colour from format tab (pattern)
    Add>>
Cell value is: Equal to: ="Pass" and choose colour from format tab (pattern)

    Hey Guys,

Another quick query, I was wondering is it possible to get the sheet to change the whole row red when failed is selected? (or green when pass etc)

The single cell works fine through Conditional Formatting, I can't see an obvious way to change the whole row though.

    Cheers,

    Daniel.

    Hi
if you enter "pass" or "fail" in coloum B then in Conditional Format window use this formula:
Formula is: =$B1="pass" and choose green colour
    add>>
Formula is: =$B1="fail" and choose red colour

    added comments.........
you should first select the whole sheet then apply conditional formatting as mentioned above.
