Auto Filling Cells

Hi,

I have created a spreadsheet with quite a few merged cells. now that i need to manipulate the data the merged cells are not being recognised as having data. i now have to unmerge all the cells then manually re-enter the data for the sorting and pivot table to work.

is there a way i can unmerge all the cells then fill the info in that i need for the previously merged cells automatically?

I am using Excel 2000 and it is mostly text data i am dealing with.

select you whole sheet (Ctrl+A), right click and select Format cells...
under Alignment tab uncheck Merge cells.
it will unmerge all merged cells on that sheet.
