how do i calculate principal payed in one year in excel

hi im workin on a college microsoft office 2003 class and i need to calculate
principal payed in one year on a five year note any help?

If I remember correctly, I'd need the following information:

Interest Rate
# payments
Simple or compound interest.
Original Principal
