    Linking cells between worksheets

During the 1960's I went to a boarding school that comprised of boarding and day pupils.

I have now found the Year books that list the names - and initials - of boys joining the school in one particular year, and, leaving in another year.

So far my data is typed in as separate work sheets for each year. For example 1960/61. 1961/62 an so on.

If a name appears in 1960/61 and then shows the same name leaving in 1966/67 how can I link them together?

I am not sure if this is at all possible, so any guidance would be most welcome.

I can supply an example file if requested.

Hi. Try this. the formula in Combined column A is an array formula.

Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulas in that they MUST be confirmed by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER.

You will know the array is active when you see curly braces { } appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly braces yourself - it won't work...

    Hello Glenn,

I seem to have solved my enquiry by accident. I have discovered that I can "select all worksheets" and then "Find" by defining any name of interest. This seems to work satisfactorily enough, so thank you for showing curiosity and your time.
