Convert xlsx files into CSV keeping foreign characters

    Hi all,

I need to convert some xlsx files into CSV, but they contain the following foreign languages -

    Polish
    Czech
    Romanian
    Hungarian

When saving these files as CSV many of the unique characters get changed to a ?

I have tried a few things like using Open Office and saving it as a text CSV and then adjusting the formatting to unicode 8 but it hasn't worked.

Can anyone suggest a solution for this please, i am using Excel 2013?

I haven't tried it but according to:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...-in-a-csv-file

The special charactors are only dropped when you save directly from .xlsx to CSV. If you save the file to the old .xls filetype first and then convert that file to CSV, it should work.

    might be worth a try?

    hi there,

thanks for that, i tried it with a couple of files and it hasn't worked - the ? still appear in place of the foreign characters.

    Another tip from stackoverflow:

A simple workaround is to use Google Spreadsheet. Paste (values only if you have complex formulas) or import the sheet then download CSV. I just tried a few characters and it works rather well.
there is also a suggestion aobut using "OpenOffice" see link for more info:
