Excel Intermittantly Won't Open Macro Enabled Workbooks

I don't have office diagnostics. Apparently it was removed from 2010. I've run sfc/Scannow + I have other utilities for checking the hardware. I did it all a week or so ago & found no faults. It seems to me to be more related to Windows than Excel, as it's ok as soon as I restart it. I tried to open & repair a couple of xlsm & xlsb files when it last happened. It wouldn't open them, it shows them open in task manager, but not on screen. Kill them & try again, still no good. Reboot, it works. I don't have any other programs playing up, aside from IE11, but I hardly use that so I'm not worried. IE11 opens & does everything it should do & after about 1 - 2 hours, it crashes. But today, I'm using it for testing & it hasn't crashed once.

It didn't happen every time I started the computer, it was intermittent. They're the hardest faults to find. Today was the first time for 3 days I think.

That's a strange place to keep a repair facility.
I've run the repair which took just over 10 minutes, informed me it had finished the repair but didn't say it had found anything, restarted, tried a couple of xlsm & xlsb's with no problem. Time will tell. I'll find out in the next couple of days if it did anything.
As for the Ram, I had looked through the performance & resource monitor in task manager one of the times I was having grief, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Ram is usually about 60% used.

I'll leave this post open for a few days & if I don't get any more problems, I'll mark it solved

Yep, it's all running well. No hiccups at all, even Internet Explorer hasn't missed a beat & that was crashing left, right & centre.
I wanted to leave it for the best part of a week to be sure it was all good. It's solved as far as I'm concerned
Office repair routine repairs more than just office it seems.

Don't know if you'll see this but I thought I'd update it anyway. Excel went from bad to worse & refused to open, but Word, One Note ect all ok. Tried another office repair, no good, windows7 repair, no good, sfc /scannow, no problem found. Googled & the most likely cause looked like a Microsoft visual C++ redistributable corruption. I had versions 2005 up to 2010 in 32 & 64bit on my computer. Uninstalled office, uninstalled all the redistributables, ran CCleaner & cleaned out windows & any registry entries it found. Did the same with Glarys utilities, which found quite a lot more junk. I used Glarys to defragment the registry & defragment the hard drive as well. Rebooted, ran another sfc/scannow, no problem found. I then installed Office2010, checked if Excel opened & then updated it as necessary. Looked in programs & features for which redistributables were installed during the updates & found 4 MS visual C++ 2008 of which 3 were 64bit, 1 32bit & also a 2010 64bit, but no older versions. Ran CCleaner & Glarys again, defragged the hard drive again & all is well in my world.
It's times like I've just had that make Linux look so good. The reason I got Office in the first place was I needed to use a spreadsheet, had no idea what I was doing, needed help & there's virtually nothing out there for Open Office Calc, but unlimited Excel resources. So I bit the bullet & got Office.
