Linking workbooks

This is my first post, be gentle, or correct my ignorance.

I have employees who enter data daily into Workbook A, Worksheet 1. At the end of each month I copy data from WBAWS1 into Workbook B Worksheet 1 (which is sent to the accountant).

I would like to behind the scenes have Workbook B be automatically updated daily with the data from Workbook A. Like I said, I'd like all this to happen behind the scenes, saving the copying step. Workbook B stays closed until end of month.

How can I do this?

Thank you.

Hi MontanaCowboy

On behalf of other members of the forum, may I welcome you and say that we take great exception to the very thought that we might treat anyone with anything less than the greatest respect on their first post. (I generally wait until the second post before the sarcasm kicks in! )

I was not sure how to treat your "behind the scenes" comment, so I have set up that the employees will continue to update WBAWS1. The only change to this file will be that there will be a marker to show which rows have been transferred to B. (The macro will run even if this column is hidden, so the employees will not be aware of it.)

There is a separate file (Control) which controls the path and files involved. This control file will open the files (unless they are already open) and post any unposted row from WBAWS1 to B.

To view the macro press Alt+F8 / Step Into

Let me know how you get on.

Regards
Alastair

There - that was not too bad, was it?

Re: Linking workbooks

Hi and welcome to the forum

Another option would be to just link directly to WBA from WBB with a regular formula, in exactly the same way that you would link between sheets. Excel will add the path and WB name for you. Once you have done 1 link, remove the absoluting ($) and copy as needed.

If you want to not show blanks, use an IF() statement to hide them
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Hi MontanaCowboy

I suppose it would be too easy just to send a copy of WBAWS1 to the accountant ?
