    set conditional formatting to score cells diagonally

    I'm trying to make a conditional formula which scores out the cells diagonally.

    This is apparently possible. Go to where you would set the format for the applicable condition > Border > you will see both diagonals as options.

    For me they're greyed out. Why?

    It's an expenditure sheet. Whenever the date is in the past, the cells go grey; and I want to put a score into them also. That way, the user instinctively knows where to today's date is.

    My question would apply equally to a blank document, so there isn't anything to upload?
