Deleting rows is causing error message

    Hello all.

A large Excel file that I have been working with for months is now giving me trouble.

When I tried to delete 2 rows, it displayed a message: "Excel cannot complete this task with avail resources. Choose less data or close other applications."

I opened a previously saved version of the file and tried deleting rows, and the same message came up.

I shut down the computer, rebooted, same problem.

Any suggestions please??! Also, is there a way to determine if a file has been corrupted .... or even worse ... is there a possibility that my Excel program itself is corrupted?

I appreciate any guidance on this. Thank you!!

The issue is you have to many columns for it to delete it all at once look at your scroll bar at the bottom it is probaly very tiny see if there are and excess coloumns at the end of your worksheet that can be delted then try again.

Re: How do I troubleshoot an Excel file?

I'm not following your thought ....

My last column with data is column MZ. The worksheet has 10,500 rows. The file has approx 15 worksheets this size.

If i scroll out to the right I see "infinite" columns. Is there a way to delete any columns past MZ??

This problem just occurred today and is now reoccurring. It never happened before. My file is the same size now as it was before.

I'm really needing help with this ... I'm dead in the water moving forward!!! Thank you!!

I should add that inserting new rows or performing "drag" function also produces this error. And the file locks up at this point.

    Thanks for any/all help!

When an Excel file shows 'Excel cannot complete this task with avail resources. Choose less data or close other applications.' error message , then you can try one of the following method to resolve it:
    1. Check whether you exceed limits
    2. Make sure only one instance of Excel is active
    3. Close all applications and try again
    4. Test Excel workbook file in safe mode
    5. Save as an Excel workbook file if you use relative names

Re: Deleting rows is causing error message

Thank you Steve for the suggestions.

#2 and #3 - both were the case and the problem persisted

#1 - where (or how) is this check done??

#4 - again, I would like to know how this is done (I've never seen Excel ask if I wanted to open a file in Safe Mode)

#5 - file is saved as filename.xlsx .... is this what it should be saved as?

    Thank you for the help!
