Looking up to external data.....but......time critical

    Hi Guys,

I have problem I cannot get my head around and am looking for some help, if indeed there is anything I can do.

    1. I have created an excel file for creating quotes and estimates for our product. - done
    2. This file has some cells linked to another file which has updated cost prices of raw ingredients. - done
    3. I can therefore create an estimate which today has the most up todate prices and therefore giving us an accurate estimate for our customers - done
    4. The problem - If in 6 months time our already quoted customer calls to place an order or we simply want to check an old quotation we cannot, because if I open a quote up for 6 months ago, the 'old' quote will automatically link to the most uptoate raw material prices. Does anybody know if I can save a file to only save the cell values rather than the formulas which would mean it couldn't link back at a later date. Or am I looking for something that isnt possible.

Any guidance would be grately appreciated.

    Many thanks for reading.

    Jim

    4. Copy and paste over the existing formulae as values. This would need to be a copy of the original worksheet, of course.

not being a macro expert. Could a macro be set up to peform this task? Basically there would probably or at least could (depending on the product) be 5-15 cells where this would need to be done, and I'll be honest that would need a lot of remembering for our sales staff.

You would copy and paste the entire quotation, once ready, not individual cells. Yes, a macro could be recorded to do it, provided the area of the quotation (i.e. cell range) is always the same. I haven't used macros in a long while - you'll have to wait for somebody else to tell you how - but it would simply be a recording of keystrokes assigned to a button on the quotation form.
