Hiding and locking columns and formulas together via passwords?

    Hi,

Is there a way in Excel 2010 that the administrator of a excel document can not only hide some columns but lock the columns by some kind of password so it remains hidden? I know user can hide/unhide columns but can some columns be hiddens and locked with passwords?

Secondly can formulas like IF and vlookups statements be hidden and locked with some kind of password?

In maybe via VBA or by some other means, is this possible?

The end user should only be able to type and select certain cells only.

    Many thanks in adance.

With columns or cell ranges selected, explore the Format Cells option - Security tab (right-click menu). Then use Protect Sheet on the Review ribbon to password protect and lock elements of your sheet.

    Hi -

Not sure what content you are trying to hide and how it fits into the workbook but you can hide a worksheet and protect the workbook structure with a password. This would prevent a user from gaining access to the content.

For the formulas, you can choose the hidden option for the cell protection and then protect the worksheet with a password. That way not only would users not be able to change the formulas they would also not be displayed in the formulas bar.

The cells in a worksheet are locked by default but you need to protect the worksheet for that setting to be effective. You can unlock the cells that you want the users to gain access to and then protect the worksheet and the users will only be able to select the cells you want them to select.

    Hello gtz101,

...can formulas like IF and vlookups statements be hidden and locked with some kind ** password?
It depends on how you have things set up.

Instead ** having us all guessing as to what your actual requirements are, why not upload a sample Workbook showing us what you have, and how you would the outcome to look like?

For all the cells that you want the formulae hidden, select them and right click, choose PROPERTIES, PROTECTION and select HIDDEN. Then, select the columns that you want to hide and then right click and choose HIDE. Do the same for any rows that you want hidden.

On the REVIEW tab, click on PROTECT SHEET and enter a password if you want a password, select the actions that you want others to be able to do and click OK.
