Re: Inventory Mangement - Barcode Scanner

How does the data show up when you scan it? Does the barcode automatically show up in the active cell?

If this is the case, then create a sheet for orders and a sheet for sales. When you order items, ensure the "Order" sheet is active. Same for sales.

Then have a master sheet that looks-up the orders less the sales. This will be your active inventory listing.

**Attach some data that you've created with the cheap barcode scanner and someone will be able to write a macro or assist better.

Thanks for your reply. As of now it doesn't do anything as I have not gotten that far. I have seen two options based on searches.

One is sorta like how you just mentioned. Doing a sales sheet and clicking on an active cell and scanning it in.
The other that I linked above the guy used a dialogue box where he clicks "Add" and then it has a text field and when you scan it goes in the field.

    It's a bit messy.

The second link up there hers apparently is automated when a barcode is scanned it automatically does everything. I don't really need that function.

My assumption is that the scanner when not plugged into USB collects a list of data as you scan it, then when plugged in it pushes that into excel.

I don't have the scanner yet, my Aunt is bringing it tomorrow. I had just planned to buy a system that had a scanner and software (Intelliscanner SOHO) but figured i Might try to save myself some money by doing it myself first.

I could definitely have Sheets like you mentioned one for orders where I scan them in and it auto adds that to the values on the "Current Inventory" Tab and then likewise a sales tab where it subtracts.

Let me maybe mess with my sheet and do a mockup maybe it will better help you guys.

    Appreciate it.

Okay after some thought I realized how much simpler this needs to be based on what I am doing. I put the instructions in the second tab of my updated document.

Thanks again for any help or direction

It is a bit long winded and confusing so I hope that it is understandable when reading.

Re: Inventory Mangement - Barcode Scanner

Well I ended up doing tons of stuff and striking out on my own ideas, but one of those links I posted above had a spreadsheet in it that worked by default. I edited it and added some vlookups and ifs to do some things I wanted and it works well for on the fly stock changes.

The only thing is it has a button that opens a list of buttons do to different things..and I have never messed with these form type things before.

I want to place new buttons that do what the buttons inside the menu you.

See example file. you click Manage Inventory then you have options here, I want to place those buttons as standalone in the spreadsheet. I've checked the code but no clue what to do.

I've only worked with buttons and macros before.

I don't know VBA so it is all a bit confusing..I tend to not be able to find all the code that pertains to things either. Any pointers on how to find this data in future to figure out stuff on my own would be helpful too! Thanks

This thread interests me and I am going to look into buying a barcode scanner (or maybe even use the app on my phone). The company that does our inventory counts has guns that keep a text file record on USB. They are able to enter the quantities in and adjust the s**tware to their liking.

This is a very efficient way ** tracking inventory. In the warehouse you can scan the actual palettes that the inventory is on along with the barcodes so you know the exact location ** the inventory too.
