Lightbulb Equation with a defined number of decimals in the answer

    Hello all,

Does anyone know if the following would be possbile in excel:

I wan to find a number that I can multiply with 86,4716007952918000000 and receive an answer with 4 or less decimals. The number should not be rounded.

    x * 86,4716007952918000000 = y,yyyy

Is there any way to do such a calculation in excel (i.e to define that the answer only should have 4 decimals or less)?

    Best regards,

    Nicolai

    Hello Nicolai,

    Welcome to the forum!
Have a look at the ROUND function.
    Hope that helps,

    Hi,

Use the Solver add-in. If you are using Excel 2003, here's how to install it (it comes with Excel, just not pre-installed): http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/ex...001127725.aspx

Take a look at this workbook, and look at the formulas that I have used (especially in the bottom section), and then look at the parameters that I have given to Solver to solve the equation.

    I hope this helps

Thank you for both the answers.

Howerver, what I look for is a number that I can multiply with that gives exactly 4 decimals (or less). Not a rounded number.

    Any suggestions?

Ajryan88, the solver add-in is superb!

Is it also possible to define the range the x should be in? For instance between 0,25 and 0,35. Still with only four decimals.

    Nicolai,

In that case, ajryan88's solution should work for you.

The obvious answer is to multiply by 1 billion.
