Calculating the intersection of 2 lines 2

    G'day again excel forum

I've been having a large problem with this over the past few months and have been out bush a lot without access to reliable internet, not aiding matters.

Basically I have a series of rows within which is described 2 intersecting lines and need to find a way of automating the calculation of the coordinates of the intersection (X and Y). Automating this is absolutely essential as many combinations of vectors will need to considered, I understand the algebra of calculating the intersection but I can't work out how to get it to work in excel (see attached example).

I've post about this before and a very helpful bloke gave me a solution however I couldn't for the life of me understand it, nor could I modify it to compute it all on a single row (in a database of 2 vector combinations) this post can be found here: http://www.excelforum.com/excel-form...ml#post3522230

I am really up the creek on this one, so if there’s anyone out there with any ideas (either original or a way to get the other method to work for me), please let us know.

    Hi Matt,

    in H21 put:
    =(C21-E21)/(F21-D21)
    and in I21 put
    =D21*H21+C21

Re: Calculating the intersection of 2 lines 2

My apologies for the lateness of my response, I've been out bush for the past couple of weeks and haven't had any internet

I can't thank you enough for the help, I'm rather embarrassed to have missed a solution so simple for so long.

Could I bother you to expand on your response slightly? Simple though it may be, I'm having a bit of trouble integrating this solution into my spreadsheet for 3D coordinate data. I've been able to calculate the slope and Yint for Easting and Northing based on elevation and successfully calculate the intersection, but not for elevation (as I obviously can't calculate slope from the one set of values).

I've attached my attempt to this post and highlighted the issue in blue, any suggestions?
